What has changed in the promotion of the site in Google? Most likely you have heard that advertising through Google Ads is no longer available for Russian users.

Since March 4, the company has suspended all commercial relations with Russia. Now: Advertisers can no longer place their ads through Google Ads; Webmasters and YouTube bloggers no longer receive monetization through Google AdSense; Regular users cannot subscribe to a premium subscription or become sponsors on YouTube. Also, since April, the Russian audience can no longer leave reviews about organizations on Google Maps. More precisely, you can leave a review, but it will go to moderation and will not return from it again.

This is really sad, because many people made the decision to choose a particular company just with the help of reviews. And now one of the largest sites is inaccessible. Of course, people will still be able to see old reviews, but due to the lack of fresh information, it will be more difficult for them to make a choice. When all these opportunities will be returned to us is unknown. Maybe it will take a year to wait, or maybe it's forever lost tools for promoting a site in Google. So just waiting is not an option. Yes, and completely focusing on Yandex is also unproductive. Of course, you can transfer all unclaimed advertising budgets to Yandex.Direct. But the competition there has risen sharply, because the entire Russian business has lost an important source of traffic at once. So other options need to be considered.

The only way that now makes it possible to get traffic from Google is SEO. After all, people have not gone anywhere from the search engine itself. Let's compare the data at the beginning of the year with the latest available at the moment. According to StatCounter Global Stats, as of January 2022, Google was used by 52.31% of Russian users, and Yandex by 45.36%. As of July, the situation has changed a little: 48.64% for Google and 47.22% for Yandex, but still the market shares of the companies are approximately equal. This means that without promoting with SEO, you lose almost half of the Internet audience. Previously, you could reach it with ads, but now this possibility is gone. There is a plus in all this: the sites that are now in the top of Google's search results no longer compete with the ad unit. That is, today you can get much cheaper traffic, which used to go down huge budgets. Of course, you will have to spend money on creating content and TheNitroweb, placing external links and other important points, but the result will remain with you for a long time, and will not disappear along with the money that has run out on the account or another blocking.
